SOCIAL STITCHES – sewing and crafting in Babcary


This posting is about the Babcary stitchers/crafters; we are always looking for new members and hope to reach anybody interested in handicrafts in the Six Pilgrims community through this page.

We meet under the name of SOCIAL STITCHES and are a group of friendly, enthusiastic embroiderers and quilters. Our venue is Babcary Village Hut, on the playing field

OUR GATHERINGS ARE VERY INFORMAL; YOU CAN BRING YOUR LATEST PROJECT OR START SOMETHING NEW THROUGH ONE OF OUR MINI WORKSHOPS.

WE MEET ON A THREE WEEK ROTA, ON THURSDAY BETWEEN 1.30 AND 4.00 PM AND SESSIONS ARE FUN BECAUSE WE SUPPORT EACH OTHER AND SHARE IDEAS.

SESSION COSTS ARE £2 TO WORK ON YOUR OWN PROJECT OR IT IS £4 TO JOIN THE MINI WORKSHOP (drinks are included)

First session will be Thursday 17 March 2011

THE WORKSHOP TITLE  ~ ‘ADDING COLOUR TO FABRIC’ – dyeing natural fabrics in plastic bags/adding colour to synthetic fabrics ~ please bring any fabrics and strong plastic food bags – dyes and colours will be provided (apron advisable)

FUTURE DATES ARE:

7 & 28 APRIL, 19 MAY, 9 & 30 JUNE, 21 JULY, 1 & 22 SEPTEMBER, 13 OCTOBER

3 NOVEMBER WILL BE A FREE SESSION WHEN IT IS HOPED THAT YOU WILL DONATE YOUR CREATED ITEM TO THE VILLAGE CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

FUTURE WORKSHOPS WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING AND MORE:  INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE EMBROIDERY, ADDING TEXTURE & PAINT TO EMBROIDERIES, MAKING PAPER FOR STITCH, ‘MELT, MANIPULATE & DISSOLVE’, APPLIQUE, TRAPUNTO

~ NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY ‘WE ALL HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE’

PREVIOUS PROJECTS HAVE INCLUDED  INDIAN WOOD BLOCK PRINTING, BLACKWORK, GOLD ON CANVAS, ONE STITCH PEBBLE PAPERWEIGHTS, INDIAN SHISHA MIRROR WORK
